Afternoon Charbs,

What's going on?!. Charlton, established premiership club, no debt, largish transfer kitty, sells one of its better players to a club 30 odd million in debt, who've just come up from the fizzy pop trying to survive that all important first season. Call me an old sceptic, but unless a transfer frenzy of some quality starts soon, we're looking a miserable
season of struggle. Prove your not just a 'Jenny come lately' girly know-nothing about football who's favourite players are the ones with the nicest legs.
Opinion Charbs ?.

I think losing Konch has been inevitable since he went on loan, but I would have liked to keep him, he seemed to have settled down this season.
Can't see it being a good move for him if he's still on at wanting to play left-back, if Chrissy's still there.
I have faith in Curbs signing a few new players soon, I mean it was about this time last year that we were stressing and ended up with Jeffers and Murphy. (ok, maybe not such a good example)
What worries me though is that we seem to be getting linked with a lot of 1st division players, surely we need experienced permiership guys?

Not bad
I don't think Pardew will play Powell as first choice even if he stays.

For a whole multitude of reasons Charlton are not able to attract the quality players we all hope to see. Curbs remind me of the shoppers at the supermaket at 5pm on Christmas eve, buying whatever's left on the shelves that no one else wants. (Jeffers last year). If this coming season starts like the last one finished
I worry we're in for a relegation battle.
I've just managed to depress myself !!.

Hehehe, I have faith that by the start we'll have signed someone else, perhaps not the 4 or 5 that they were saying but hopefully some more, a decent defender would be nice, I've heard a lot of rumours about Gardener from Spurs but I dont really rate him.
What do you think?

Did i prove myself as a Jenny-come-lately then or am I allowed to go on pretending that I know what I'm talking about?

I agree about Gardiner.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt so far, but once the season starts I'll be waiting to pounce on any silly girly sentence that displays a lack of understanding of the game.
Here's a pre season tip. When the opposition players keep moaning about a free kick against them, DO NOT shout at the top of your voice, "come on ref move the kick forward ten yards"

You are most kind to give me the benefit and i'm sure that tip will come in handy for all those that see it

I really do wish that football were more accessible here. Being that it's the sport I played growing up, it's the one I understand and am interested in the most. But unless you have cable, there's none of that playing here.

Charby said...

So who do you follow then SpinsterWitch? If you answer Man U you will find yourself banned forthwith from this part of the intermerwebby

HistoryGeek said...

Ah, see, but that's the problem. I don't get cable, and we in the US are hopeless when it comes to following anything but baseball (more boring than watching golf) and American football (for that it's the Raiders all the way...I don't watch it, but I live in Raider Nation).

So here's your chance to influence the crazy American. Who're the good teams?

Charby said...

I've never understood baseball or american Football.
The best team ever to support is Charlton Athletic. Flash *Might* try and convince you that Leeds united are better but don't listen cos they're pants and we're great!!!

I actually do enjoy American football...there's nothing like having it on on a Sunday afternoon and taking a nap to it. It's perfect background noise.

Charleton, hmmm...I'll take that under advisement. Somehow I'm guessing that these are pretty regional opinions. Is that right?

That's right, pretty much every city has its own football team, and London is just greedy and has about 8 different professional teams that I can think of from the top of my head
